MEET THE TEAM

WHO WE ARE

Coastal Mountain Excavations Ltd has a reputation in the Sea to Sky Corridor for being the most experienced and best equipped heavy construction contractor to tackle any job large or small. We have been privileged to have some of the best talent from all across the world working for us over our 41 years in business. We are very fortunate to have an average tenure of over 15 years of service, with many having worked for us for over 30 years.

Thanks to our highly skilled and friendly staff, CME has enjoyed many years of great success, and in doing so has become one of the best employers in the Sea to Sky Corridor.  Our employees are our number one asset, and here they are.

Chairman, Director

Nigel Woods

Nigel visited Whistler in the early 1970’s and quickly realized that he wasn’t leaving.  He bought a backhoe and began clearing driveways of snow in the winter and digging holes in the summer.

From the humble beginnings of being an owner/operator, Nigel has grown CME over the past 40 years to be the largest and most successful civil contracting firm in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

Nigel continues to lead a team of over 60 highly skilled construction professionals and will always call Whistler his home.  Nigel lives in Whistler with his wife Buff and have three kids, Matt, Carleigh, and Adam and has four grandchildren, Cooper, Olivia, Corden, and Peter.

President, Director

Matt Woods

Being a born and raised Whistlerite, Matt began working for CME when he was 16 years old; grouting manholes and shoveling drain rock.  Every summer while in high school and throughout university, Matt worked his way through the company getting to know every aspect of heavy construction and learning the business from his dad, our Chairman, Nigel Woods.

After six years in university, Matt joined the business full time and has moved from Site Superintendent, to Project Manager, Junior Estimator, to Vice President – Sales, and now President Director.

Matt intends on growing the business his dad founded, with partner and C.O.O. Tim Coulson, and has been working diligently to ensure the future success of the business is in good hands.

Matt lives in Whistler with his wife Courtney, daughter Olivia, and son Peter.

Chief Operating Officer, Director

Tim Coulson

Before he moved to Whistler, Tim was a licensed plumber in Australia. He joined the fold at CME in the early 1990’s.

He started out working in the ditch and worked through various job descriptions, taking on whichever role was needed to make the job a success. Tim is great at working out the best way to get the job done efficiently and above all else, safely. Thanks to the many contacts he’s made, Tim knows who to call and where to go to find an answer or solve any issue that may be holding up a project.

Tim’s experience is second to none in the Sea to Sky Corridor and he is a leader among construction professionals.  Tim achieved his CSP Designation through the Snow and Ice Management Association (SIMA) in 2010 to secure himself as the most experienced and professional contractor in the Snow and Ice Management industry.

His ability to manage many construction projects at the same time lead him to quickly become CME’s Operations Manager, and now Chief Operations Officer.

Tim lives in Pemberton with his wife Sula, son Cain, and daughter Chloe.

Chief Change Officer

Ruth Brosseau

Ruth came to Whistler “for the summer” in 1992, fell in love with the mountains and never left.

She combines an Honours Degree in General Studies concentrating in Politics and Business from Brock University with significant practical experience in Human Resources and Administration, Accounting and Finance, Management and Operations. She joined the team at Coastal Mountain Excavations in 2004.

Ruth lives in Pemberton with her husband Eric, daughters Laura and Kate, and dog Buster.
